Bauchi Governor Bala Mohammed Slams PDP Members Joining ADC-Led Opposition Coalition

Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum, has issued a stern warning to party members aligning with the new opposition coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) platform, declaring that such dual allegiance will not be tolerated.

Speaking at the PDP Stakeholders Conference in Abuja on Wednesday, Governor Mohammed condemned what he described as “indiscipline” within the party. “We cannot take indiscipline to a level where it becomes contagious. If you are in PDP, you are in PDP; you cannot be in the PDP and be in the coalition or another party,” he stated. “You cannot belong to two places. You cannot be a hermaphrodite, you cannot be a man and a woman at the same time.”

His remarks, which were met with support from many of the party’s founding members present at the conference, emphasized that PDP members cannot claim loyalty to the party while working for the interests of other political platforms, particularly the ADC-led coalition.

The PDP has been grappling with internal crises for over two years, culminating in the resignation of its 2023 presidential candidate, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, last week. Atiku cited “irreconcilable differences” and a divergence from the party’s foundational principles as reasons for his departure. Similarly, former Senate President David Mark recently resigned from the PDP and has been announced as the interim chairman of the ADC, the adopted platform of the new opposition coalition.

Governor Mohammed’s comments reflect the PDP’s efforts to address internal divisions and restore unity as it navigates the fallout from high-profile exits and prepares for future electoral challenges. The party has yet to announce further steps to address the ongoing crisis.
